Hotels All Over The World
What precisely is the definition of a hotel? What is the essential difference between hotels, dormitory, hostels, motels, youth hostels like YMCA and of course getaway resorts. I would say that hotels generally refer to tourist accommodation that offers more than just accommodation. Meals, recreation and gymnasiums are sometimes part of the facilities that can be found in hotels. Business travelers and holiday makers stay at hotels because of the added convenience of hotels been generally located near to the big cities and urban districts.
Hotels can be categorized into generally five different classes in terms of the level of luxury offered. Five star hotels are the best in terms of quality of the accommodation and services, and the nightly rent of a hotel room in 5-star hotels could be as high as a thousand dollars of more, for some of the big name hotels. Valet services and attendants are always part of the services offered in big hotels. The best hotels also comes with high end delicacies and services that are second to none.
Hostels on the other end, offers accommodation at more affordable rates, and is idea for backpackers and travelers on a shoe-string budget. Personally, whenever I travel, I would prefer to stay in cheap hostels because I would rather spend my money on sightseeing and the like. After all, a hotel or hostel is just a place for me to spend the night. This would be different though, if you are traveling with family and children. We all would not mind taking some inconveniences ourselves, but would be willing to spend a little more to make sure family members and children are well taken of. There are many affordable hostels all over the world, from New York, Los Angeles, Sydney, Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo and Bangkok to name a few. The best way to find the right hostel of your choice would be to do research on the internet. Generally, a night's stay at a cheap hostel would cost you no more than US$30 or thereabout. I travel to many parts of the world before I finally settled down, and some of my favorite destinations are Paris, Amsterdam, Munich, Moscow, Boston and Vancouver.
So, what about dormitories? Are they no different from hotels and hostels? Dormitories would refer more to the kind of accommodation that students would take up during their school terms. However, dormitories also refer to a particular type of hostels where travelers stay together in the same room, and sometimes the accommodation could be mixed, that is male and female. Dormitories are great for travelers who move in groups, because that is a great place for people who prefer to socialize and mingle rather than to be locked up in their own room. Dormitories are also a great place to stay for backpackers because you get plenty of opportunities to get to know other travelers. I stay at dormitories more often than not, and I never fail to exchange notes with others about where to go and what to do next. Been a lot cheaper than hotels, dormitories are a great bargain for those of us who mind not so much about privacy on the road.
Motels on the other hand, tend to have a kind of sleazy reputation in some countries, like Taiwan. This is because lovers and extramarital affairs often take place at such premises. That is not to say that all motels are frequented by individual with a different kind of motives. A lot of businesspeople and travelers too, stay at motels. Personally, I feel a better sense of security living in a hotel, than a motel, when I travel with the family. Note that some motels are specially meant for lovers because the bathrooms are open concept, and that could well be an embarrassment if you are traveling with family members.
Then we have youth hostels like the YMCA, or Young Men Christian Association. These are again cheap hostels for travelers with a limited budget. The best kind of accommodation for getaway adventures would perhaps be the holiday resorts. These resorts are usually located away from the big cities and near to the countryside and seaside. Resorts offer more than just accommodation. Theme parks, water world, seaside proximity and a whole lot of other water sports and beach activities are all within a stone's throw away from your room. Resorts are a different kind of accommodation for those of us who just want to get away from the maddening crowd of big city living.
All in all, hotels, hostels, resorts or whatever, they all offer different kinds of facilities for people with different wants. Be it in Zurich, Munich, London, Birmingham or even Jakarta, New Delhi and Calcutta, a suitable kind of accommodation awaits you.
